- 1) make sure you set up the modem (type AT&F1&W) to load up the
- hardware handshaking defaults.

- 2) it is perfectly normal for modems to report two different speeds
- at each end of the connection. V.34 is assymetrical and can support
- two speeds each way. if one would do ATI6 the speed reading you get
- is for example 28800/31200 which means 28800 Recieve and 31200 Send

- 3) your running somewhat old firmware. go to ftp.usr.com directory dl05
- and download usrsdl.exe, thats the 1/23/96 firmware. adds caller id
- , distinctive ringing and other features. read your manual and flash
- both modems with the flash rom program. you can also obtain the code
- at thier bbs by calling 1 708 982 5092
